# XFE Unicode console font The checked-in `.hex.gz` is the unmodified GNU Unifont 16.0.04 Plane 0 font source. XFESystem selects **SIL Open Font License 1.1** for this font and the generated `assets/branding/console/xfe-unicode.bin` subset. The application and original XFESystem ASCII drawings retain their own project licenses. The generated subset is named **XFE Unicode Console**, not Unifont. - [Upstream release](https://unifoundry.com/pub/unifont/unifont-16.0.04/) - [Exact glyph source](https://unifoundry.com/pub/unifont/unifont-16.0.04/font-builds/unifont-16.0.04.hex.gz) - Glyph source SHA256: `f9c8c7802453f47be02677176aeac2342ee96d354fad7a26cedcce48e68e1d9f` - [Upstream source archive](https://unifoundry.com/pub/unifont/unifont-16.0.04/unifont-16.0.04.tar.gz) - Archive SHA256: `2bd4e4679757126f48e1bf2c1be40b09aa92162bfedda4683ce5fbc70a2a5972` `COPYING` and `OFL-1.1.txt` are copied verbatim from that source archive. `COPYING` includes the alternative GPL version 2 or later with the GNU font embedding exception, as well as the licenses for upstream utilities and documentation; those utilities are not embedded in XFESystem. Rebuild with `python assets/branding/build-console-assets.py` (Pillow 12.3.0). It checks the source hash before generating the subset. Covered characters include CJK Unified Ideographs and Extension A, Chinese punctuation, fullwidth forms, arrows, common Latin/Greek/Cyrillic, and the visible replacement glyph. UTF-8 input outside the covered ranges uses one replacement glyph per Unicode scalar, rather than one question mark per UTF-8 byte. Complex text shaping and a Chinese input method are outside this first bilingual console implementation.
